What the Bible Teaches About the Bible:

The Bible is the only book that is composed by God.  It was written over a period of approximately 1500 years through many people, who were directly influenced by God as they wrote.  The Bible is the special way that God has revealed himself to humanity.  The Bible contains everything we need to believe about God and what God requires of us.

2 Peter 1:2, 2 Timothy 3:16

What the Bible Teaches About the God:

God is outside the realm of time. He has no beginning and no ending. God is perfect, holy, and

good, and God will never change.  God is the creator of everything, and everything was created

out of nothing. God is actively involved in governing and preserving all of His creation according

to His wisdom.

Deuteronomy 33:27, Exodus 324:5-7, Genesis 1:1, Hebrews 11:3, Colossians 1:17

What the Bible Teaches about Humanity:

God is the creator of everyone, and we are all created in His image.  Because we are His creatures,we are all responsible to serve Him and obey His requirements. But we have all turned away from the Lord; we have all disobeyed Him and sinned.  Everything about who we are is basically sinful, our thoughts, deeds, and affections.  No matter what we do, we cannot change the fact that we are sinners, and our good relationship with God is lost.

Genesis 1:27-28, Psalm 139:13-15, 100:3, 119:102, Isaiah 53:6, Psalm 14:2-3, Romans 3:23

What the Bible Teaches About Judgment and Salvation:

The penalty and punishment for our sin is hell.  Sin is a horrible offense against the holy Creator,

so God is perfectly just in condemning everyone.  No matter how good someone tries to be, it is

impossible for unholy sinners to enter holy heaven by their own efforts.  But God was not content

with leaving everyone in hell.  He was pleased to provide the way of salvation Himself.  What God did was to have Jesus Christ pay the penalty for sin.  God punished Jesus instead of the sinner so that the sinner could be freed from the penalty of hell. The sinner is then given the righteousness of Jesus thus being justified before God.  The penalty for sin was paid completely by Jesus. Therefore, salvation and heaven are gained only through Jesus.

Luke 12:5, Romans 2:5, Galatians 2:16, Ephesians 2:1-5, Mark 10:45, 1 Corinthians 15:3, Romans 4:25-5:1,

John 14:6

What the Bible Teaches About Individual Responsibility:

What God has done for sinners is a great expression of love and mercy.  It demands a response

from you.  If you reject the message, then you remain destined for hell.  If you believe that Jesus

died for your pardon, then you have certain responsibilities.

First – Confess to God that you are a sinner who deserves God’s punishment, and ask Him to

forgive you.  He promised He would.

Second – Receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and trust that He died to pay your penalty.

Third – Repent, which means to change your ways of living and live obediently to Jesus every day. Followers of Jesus are children of God. Since God is holy, His children should also be holy, living as Jesus would live.

1 John 1:9, Isaiah 55:7, Luke 9:23, 2 Corinthians 5:15, Galatians 3:26, 1 Peter 1:14-16

What the Bible Teaches About Jesus Christ:

Jesus was a real man who lived about 2000 years ago.  He was completely human and experienced life like anyone else, except that He never sinned.  Yet Jesus was not like any other human being, because He was also God.  He was not a lesser god, nor did He become a god.  Jesus was eternally and completely God.  Jesus is the God-man.  God is three equal persons in One: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (somewhat like a “three leaf clover”, which has three leaves but is actually one leaf). Jesus, God the Son, suffered the punishment for sin, when He died on the cross.  Three days later Jesus rose from the dead. He then returned to the throne of heaven, where He now intercedes for those who put their trust in Him.

Hebrews 4:15, John 1:1-5, 14, Matthew 28:19, Romans 5:6-8, Isaiah 53:5, Hebrews 7:25

What the Bible Teaches About How to Continue the Christian Life:

Buy a Bible.  Begin reading it and studying it.  (Start reading at the New Testament).   The Word of God should be central in your life.  Pray to God continually with thanksgiving. Give to him your concerns and requests.  Find a church and become involved with it.  (Find a church that agrees with this summary). The church is where the Bible is taught and where Christians help one another mature in their faith. The Christian life is often very difficult.  Don’t give up.  God will strengthen you. One day you will be with God in heaven; where there will only be great joy and gladness forever.
